Obituary

Mrs. Sophie Solberg was born in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, near Clarkfield, October 26, 1874, the daughter of Ole Swenson Aas and Ambjor (Dokken) Swenson Aas. She was baptized and confirmed in Camp Release Church. Rev. O. Gulbransen confirmed her on November 17, 1889. On June 9, 1897, she was united in marriage to Konrad K. Solberg by Rev. W.B. Dahl. To this union nine children were born. Preceding Mrs. Solberg in death were her parents and four children, namely Arthur, Selma, Kenneth and Reuben. She is survived by her husband; two sons: Oliver of Clarkfield and Mirl of Minneapolis; three daughters: Amy (Mrs. Jerome Slatta) of Upham, North Dakota, Eleanor (Mrs. Radcliffe Caswell) of Lomita, California, and Arda (Mrs. Fred Psyhos, Jr.) of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; two brothers: Bert Aas of Stanley, North Dakota, and Sam Swenson of Montevideo, Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Inga Pitts, and Mrs. Halvor Solberg of Montevideo. Mrs. Solberg's was a busy life, spent in unselfish service to a large family, and always willing to do more than her share in church work and community betterment projects. She was a member of the E.L.C. Ladies Aid in Clarkfield for 48 years. Mrs. Solberg had been in failing health for two years, since she was involved in an accident. She suffered a paralytic stroke two weeks before her death on March 25, 1953, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 72 years.
