Obituary

Sophia Gautefall, daughter of Jorgen and Ingrid (Rue) Haugen, was born in Telemarken, Norway, January 9, 1865. She was baptized in the Seljord Lutheran Church, and later confirmed there. In 1887 she came to America with her widowed mother, one sister, Tilla, and a brother, Jorgen. They made their home with her brother, Thor Haugen, who farmed near Hanley Falls, Minnesota. On June 24, 1892, she was united in marriage to Lars Gautefall of Hazel Run, Minnesota. After the wedding they made their home on the farm owned by the groom which is the present farm home. To this union eight children were born, namely, Milla, Inga, George, Thea, Lewie, Susie and Clara. Her husband passed away April 6, 1917, and one daughter died in 1915. Mrs. Gautefall had been ill since the middle of April and was taken to the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, May 11, 1954, where she passed away May 14, 1954. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons: Ole, George and Lewie of Hazel Run; four daughters: Mrs. Henry Kjelleberg of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Inga of Hazel Run, Mrs. Emil Gilbertson of Marshall, Minnesota, and Mrs. Julius Berre of Granite Falls; Myron Anderson stationed in Japan, whom she reared from infancy until he entered the service; one sister, Mrs. Thomas Strathern of St. Paul, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a large number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church and the "Landsforening" Ladies Aid.
