Obituary

Sondre T. Reishus was born June 6, 1911, to Sondre T. and Tilla (Harris) Reishus in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith at the English Lutheran Church of Cottonwood, Minnesota. His father died when he was four and his mother moved the family to Hanley Falls, Minnesota, where he attended school and was confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. He worked at various jobs around the country before joining the US Army in 1940. He served as a combat engineer in the 6th Infantry Division in New Guinea and the Philippines and was discharged in September of 1945. He returned to Minnesota where he met and married Martha Kathleen Dietz of Wahpeton, North Dakota, on October 26, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He began farming in Wood Lake Township of Yellow Medicine County and continued to live there until his death. He was active in the American Legion Post AB # 127 in Hanley Falls, and coached Legion baseball. He was a member of the Hanley Falls School Board, the Hanley Falls Senior Citizens and the VFW Post of Granite Falls, Minnesota. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and bowling, fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, and camping. Sondre passed away at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, on June 1, 2001, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 25 days as the result of a traffic accident. He is survived by two sons: Mark (ZeeAnne) of rural Wood Lake, Minnesota, and Todd (Vicki) of Granite Falls, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Nicolas Reishus of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brandon Reishus of Ripon, Wisconsin, Tony Reishus of Madison, South Dakota, and Marci Jo and Ryan Reishus of Granite Falls, Minnesota. Other survivors include Maxine Reishus of New London, Minnesota, Dayle Dietz Stroh of Surprise, Arizona, Meredythe Hoye of Omaha, Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Marcie in 1985; an infant daughter; his parents; brothers Alton and Harvey; sisters Octavia Hughes and Edna Bestland; half-brother Odin Reishus; half-sisters Wanda and Mildred Reishus; and brothers-in-law Roy Bestland and Ray, Dale and Robert Dietz.
