Obituary

In the spring of 1866 her parents, Sven and Toren (Jenson) Thon with their three small children emigrated by sailship from their home in North Aurdal Valdres, Norway, to the United States of America and it was on this voyage across the Atlantic Ocean that Siri Thon was born on the ship, May 6, 1866. The ship was called Sirius and it was the Captain's wish that she be named after the ship. The family located near Daleyville, Iowa County, Wisconsin, and here Siri was baptized in the Perry Lutheran Church. In the spring of 1876 the family moved west to Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where they lived for a year when they moved onto their homestead in Lyon County, eight miles southwest of Cottonwood, Minnesota, and here Siri grew to womanhood. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Knute Thorstenson. On January 5, 1891, she was united in marriage to Andrew O. Miller and settled on their farm in Vallers Township where she made her home for 47 years. Three daughters were born to this union. Mabel, the oldest, passed away in 1909 at the age of 18 years. In 1938 the family retired from the farm and moved to Cottonwood, where they purchased a home. Mr. Miller passed away March 25, 1949. She leaves to mourn her departure, two daughters, Susie and Agnes, both at home, a large number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends by whom she will be greatly missed.
