Simon John Collins was born January 22, 1882, in Stockholm, Sweden to parents John and Anna Sofia (Johnson) Collins. He grew up at Beresford, South Dakota, and later moved to Moville, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Clara Louise Wikstrom of Skelleftea, Sweden. To this union, two children were born: Arthur of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Mabel (Mrs. Erling Kjos) of Appleton, Minnesota. The family farmed near Gary, South Dakota, and Canby, Minnesota, later moving to Boyd, Minnesota. He passed away December 21, 1967, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 85 years. Surviving are his son and daughter, three grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Collins, and four nieces and nephews and many relatives in Sweden.
