Samuel Olaf Norgaard was born in Hazel Run Township on January 7, 1918, to his parents, Tarold and Gudvie (Lundberg) Norgaard. He was baptized by Rev. John Salhus and confirmed by Rev. A. Haugland at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. He attended school in Hazel Run and graduated salutatorian of his class from Hanley Falls in 1936. Sam was married to Lois Lindemann of Dawson on September 16, 1944, at the Providence Valley Lutheran Church. To this union, two children were born, Joan and Loren. Sam enjoyed farming all of his life and also enjoyed being involved in many activities. He was township treasurer for 35 years. He has been Sunday School teacher, superintendent, deacon, secretary, and special usher for many years in his church. He was also treasurer of the Perpetual Care Fund of the Hazel Run Cemetery, and a fraternal communicator for Lutheran Brotherhood. Sam was active in Farm Bureau, Pork Producers, and Toastmasters. Sam passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on April 5, 1992, at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Joan and husband Paul Thompson of Alexandria, Minnesota; son, Loren and wife Diane of Hazel Run; grandchildren: Mikkel, Ingrid, and Naomi Thompson, and Erik, David, and Rachel Norgaard.
