IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth Doris
(Velde) Hanson
July 30, 1916 – January 25, 2015
Doris Hanson, 98, of Granite Falls, formerly of the Hazel Run area entered into eternity on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Riverside Assisted Living in Granite Falls. Ruth Doris Velde was born on July 30, 1916, in Granite Falls to Faltin Torger (FT) and Ellen (Foien) Velde; she was the eighth of twelve children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. As an adult she became passionate about the Bible (King James Version) and read it cover to cover. She put her trust in the Lord and loved Him with all her heart. Doris graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1934. She studied stenography at the business school at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, Minnesota. Doris was united in marriage to Iry Julian Hanson, on June 20th, 1937, at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. They lived at Iry's home farm for one year and had their first child, Syrie. Their second home was a farm called the White Divide where they lived for four years and had three more children: Forbes, Delano and Lyndon. In 1943 they bought a farm in Hazel Run Township and had their last child, Julene. Doris was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. Her family, love of God, and her faith were the most important things in her life. She had a true appreciation of the farm life. She never stopped worrying about the weather and how it would affect the young farmers of today. Doris is survived by her children: Syrie (Ralph) Officer of Coon Rapids, Forbes (Hazel) Hanson of Clarkfield, Delano (Debbie) Hanson of Mankato, Lyndon (Ann) Hanson of Granite Falls, and Julene (Brian) Gutknecht of Bismarck, North Dakota; her brother, LaGrant Velde of Granite Falls; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Iry; her grandson, Nagal Hanson; her great grandson, Kyler Ossenkop; her brothers: Clarence (in infancy), Therol, Kermit and Lloyd Velde; and her sisters: Fryda Ruckman, Ines Velde, Camilla Edlund, Lucile Velde, Corrine Ettinger and Joan Davidson.
