(Tallman). Barkeim

Ruth R. Barkeim was born on November 23, 1910, in Jackson County, Minnesota, to parents Fred and Alta Mae (Postier) Tallman. She completed and graduated from high school in 1928, and then went on to get her teaching certificate. Ruth taught rural school for seven years. She married Oscar Barkeim at Lakefield, Minnesota, on November 12, 1939. This marriage was blessed with four children: Duane, Eldon, Kathleen and David. Ruth and Oscar made their home on the Barkeim farm until 1947 when they moved to Rost Township and remained there until the fall of 1954. At that time they moved to a farm NE of Clarkfield, Minnesota. In 1963 they sold the farm and moved to Clarkfield, where they spent their retirement years until Oscar passed away in 1988. At that time, Ruth sold her home and moved to the Valhalla Apartments where she lived until she moved to Burns Manor in Hutchinson, Minnesota, in September of 1995. Ruth passed away at the Hutchinson Community Hospital on Wednesday morning, July 21, 1999, at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 29 days. She is survived by her children: Duane (and Carol), North Branch, Minnesota, Eldon (and Naomi), Hutchinson, Minnesota, Kathleen (and Curtis) Dahl, Jacksonville, Florida, and David (and Katie), Alexandria, Minnesota. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Michelle (Barkeim) Montpetit, Patrick Barkeim, Cindy (Barkeim) Heigel, Pam Barkeim, Heather (Barkeim) Masters, Amy (Barkeim) Jorgenson, Dan Barkeim, Shannon Dahl, and Lisa (Dahl) Kowals; and nine great grandchildren: Scott Barkeim, Missena Minnick, Jac'que Blaise, Bradley Barkeim, Killian Dahl, Gabrielle Kowals, Cierra Kowals, Abraham Masters, and Nathan Jorgenson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters: Irene Malchow and Bernice Peters. Ruth was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. While she and Oscar lived in Clarkfield they were the janitors at Clarkfield Lutheran. She was very involved in church activities and the Clarkfield American Legion Auxiliary and the Clarkfield Community. She was noted for all her crafts and flowers. She will be missed by many.
