Ruth Sebelia Severson was born on January 19, 1904, in Lyon County, Minnesota, to Ole and Beatta (Kompelien) Severson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Martin Romstad at St. Lucas Lutheran Church in rural Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She finished high school and one year of teacher's training at Madison, Minnesota, Normal School and taught for four years at country schools in Yellow Medicine and Lyon Counties. During this time she also served as Sunday School Superintendent at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. On August 4, 1927, she married Albin (Gussie) Anderson. He passed away April 19, 1970. Ruth was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield, Minnesota, and was active in a number of Augustana organizations, Extension Homemakers, Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Clarkfield Garden Club. She was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed listening to their games on the radio. Ruth passed away at Luther Haven Nursing Home, Montevideo, Minnesota, on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the age of 99 years, 6 months and 8 days. She is survived by two daughters: Beverly (Rod) Heemstra, Arnolds Park, Iowa, and Carroll (Don) Albertson, Burlington, Vermont; four sons: Dale (Elizabeth), Bend, Oregon, Ronald (Hallie) Fargo, North Dakota, Glenn, Ingelewood, California, and Charles, Clarkfield, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters: Bernice (Herbert) Hanson and Orlanda (Maurice) Oftedahl; two foster brothers: Earl Kompelien and Everett Loomis; and a grandson, Todd Albertson.
