Ruth was born March 28, 1922, at Lake Benton, Minnesota, to parents Johannes and Agneta (Nielson) Krog. She was baptized at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church of Lake Benton and confirmed at Danebod Lutheran Church of Tyler, Minnesota. Ruth and Darwin VanStelten were married on March 28, 1944, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Arco, Minnesota. They were the parents of two daughters: Carol and Twyla. Ruth was a teacher and taught in many rural schools. She also worked in the library at the Clarkfield Public Schools until her retirement in January 1985. She enjoyed sewing, quilting crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with her family. Ruth became a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center in 2002. She passed away at the Care Center on Monday, April 17, 2006, at the age of 84 years and 20 days. She is survived by her husband, "Van" of Clarkfield and her daughters, Carol (and Bill) Hagedorn of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Twyla (and Mike) Kanten of Milan, Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Angi (and Doug) Sadrack, Tarni (and Joe) Beach, Mandi (and Nate) Wright, Mindy (and Mike) Sauvageau, Mace Kanten, and Nissa Kanten and great granddaughters Taylor, Cailey, and Kenzie Sauvageau and sister Norma Krammer. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.
