Ruth Haakenson Olson, daughter of Norwegian pioneer immigrants, Martin & Karine (Pederson) Haakenson, was born March 8, 1901, at Boyd, Minnesota. She passed away December 22, 1992, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Dawson, Minnesota at the age of 91. On December 10, 1927, she married Gerhard Olson of Tyro Township and they made their home on their farm in Maxwell Township until Gerhard's death in 1966. Ruth then made her home in Boyd until she moved to Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson in 1989. Ruth was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of Willing Workers and Lutheran Church Women. Her education began at District #55 and later she graduated from Dawson High School and Lutheran Normal School, Madison. She taught in rural schools for six years. Ruth was always giving of herself. She shared the things she loved with others; music, gardening & cooking. The love and caring she gave to others will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerhard, parents, brothers and sisters, Marie, Clara, Jorgina, Hannah, Oleanna, Peter, Hjalmar, & Berndt. She is survived by her son Mark Olson and his wife, Joann of Jackson, Mississippi, and their children, Matthew, Kristin, and Peter; daughter, Margaret Olson Goderstad and her husband, Bertrand, of Hastings, Minnesota, and their son, Todd and his wife, Susan, Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and great grandchildren, Erik and Melinda Goderstad; sisters-in-law, Agnes Olson of Clarkfield and Carolyn Anderson of Northfield; nieces and nephews.
