Russell C. S. Johnson, 87 died at his home on Friday, July 29, 1988. He was the last of the Chris Johnson family. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, 1988, from the Clarkfield Lutheran Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota, with Pastor Gordon A. Trelstad officiating. Organist was Karen Donner with solo music by Ross Riecke, "How Great Thou Art" and "My Faith Has Found a Resting Place". Congregational Hymns were "Beautiful Savior" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Casket Bearers were Don Crist, Leo Flattum, Charles Flett, Art Lee, Arden Morland and Leo Toft. Final Resting Place was in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Russell Chester Sylvan Johnson was born to Christian and Selma Johnson at Clarkfield on February 13, 1901. He was baptized and confirmed in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and was a faithful member all his life. After finishing eighth grade and some high school, he helped his father in his general merchandise store. Later Russell took over the business and at the time of his retirement in 1974 he was selling Men's Clothing. Russell and Inga Appelseth were married on June 28, 1938. They adopted a daughter, Shirley, when she was four years old. Besides his wife, Inga of Clarkfield and daughter, Shirley, with her husband Roger of Moorhead, Minnesota, he is survived by four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.
