Russell Milo Hawkinson was born November 15, 1920, at the family farmhouse in Swede Prairie Township, southwest of Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Alfred M. and Rachel (Ness) Hawkinson. He grew up there and graduated from Clarkfield High School. He continued to work the farm. Russell and Margaret Learmonth were married on November 17, 1952. They farmed with their three children until 1973, when they moved to Clarkfield. Russell worked at AMPI in Dawson until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement he and Margaret enjoyed traveling to many church camps and visiting relatives in Canada, Texas, and Wisconsin. He was always faithful in his church and was an Elder. Russell passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2003, at his home in Clarkfield following a valiant struggle with cancer, at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 9 days. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; and their three children: Aileen Leasure of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Martin Hawkinson of Racine, Wisconsin, and Karen (and Harley) Winters of Montevideo, Minnesota. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother Arlo Hawkinson of Cottonwood, Minnesota; sisters: Sylve Hawkinson and Fern (and David) Landmark of Montevideo, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
