Roy Justus Bestland was born May 10, 1897, in Wood Lake Township, of parents, George and Johanna (Ellingson) Bestland. Roy was baptized and confirmed in the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, in Hanley Falls, Minnesota. He worked as a farm hand until he started farming for himself in 1920. On March 3, 1926, Roy and Edna Reishus were married by Rev. Ole Lokensgaard in Hanley Falls. As hobbies, Roy enjoyed music and dancing. After Roy retired from farming in 1969, he and Edna moved into Hanley Falls. Roy and Edna spent the winter months in Florida for twenty-five years. Roy and Edna moved to an apartment in Cottonwood, Minnesota in 1983, and Roy entered the Parkview Nursing Home, in Belview, Minnesota, in May 1985. In May 1986, Roy went to the Granite Falls Manor, and Edna moved to the Henry Hill Apartments in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Roy passed away at the Granite Falls Manor on Wednesday, January 23, the age of 93 years. Roy leaves his wife, Edna of Granite Falls; son, Roy Bestland, Jr. and wife Claudia, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; daughter, Jean Bjornebo, and husband, Arvid, of Cottonwood, Minnesota; and daughter Donna Stelter, and husband, Duane of Marshall, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Bolstad, of the Clara City Nursing Home; and one brother, Orlando Bestland, of Swan River, Manitoba, Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Even, Julian, Knute, Elmer; three sisters, Emma Bestland, Anna Bestland, Francis Bestland; and one grandson, Eric Bestland.
