IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rose (Runnie)
Flett
August 5, 1904
Rose (Runnie) Flett was born August 5, 1904, at her grandparents farm near Farwell, Minnesota, in Pope County. She was christened Rose Annice Leona Runnie. Her parents, Ragnhild and Erick Runnie lived in Morris at the time but her grandmother, Ragnhild Moen was a professional midwife and delivered her at her farm home. Her mother was born in Wisconsin in 1870 and her father in Bergen, Norway in 1860. They met in Glenwood, Minnesota, and were married in 1891. Rose had a sister, Esther and two brothers Clarence and Nels. Rose was baptized November 21, 1904, and was confirmed in a Lutheran church in 1918 near Glenwood. She began first grade in Morris, Minnesota, in 1910 and then a series of events changed her life. Her grandfather Moen died that year. Two years later her mother died of a burst goiter and in 1913 her father died of T.B. Grandmother Moen died in 1914. With her family support gone in Morris, she was taken in by a cousin, Marie Swanson, at their farm on the south side of Lake Minnewaska, Starbuck, Minnesota. Rose moved back to Morris when she was 15 to live with her oldest brother Nels, who had returned from the war. She graduated from Morris High in 1923 and attended Moorhead State Teacher College for one and one-half years. In 1925 she moved to the Cities and worked for several doctors and dentists before completing an X-ray and Lab course at Miller Hospital. Rose met Charles Flett while working in the Cities and on June 21, 1933, they were married. After finishing school and working for several years, Charles and Rose and their three kids, Charles, Margaret and James moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, to began the practice of law in 1940. Robert was born three years later. Rose was active in church affairs including the Ladies Aid. Both she and Charles were gardeners and Rose won awards for her roses. In later years they spent many happy hours fishing. Their four children gave them seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her husband Charles passed away in 1997. Rose kept up the family home for several years and finally moved to the Care Center where she has lived past her 104th birthday. Her sense of humor, kindness and spirit of cooperation will long be remembered by the staff at the center. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the age of 104 years, 1 month and 19 days. She is survived by her children: Charles (and Florence) of Tucson, Arizona, Margaret (and Galen) Wilson of Duluth, Minnesota, Robert (and Susan) of Stanswood, Washington, and her daughter-in- law Marcia Flett of Arvada, Colorado. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Jim and her siblings Esther, Clarence and Nels. Blessed be her memory.
