Roland E. Haugen was born September 14, 1923, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Conrad and Perle (Anderson) Haugen. He was baptized at Clarkfield Lutheran Church and later confirmed by Pastor Akre at Clarkfield Lutheran. He graduated from Clarkfield High School. Roland was a dairy farmer his entire life. He enjoyed his cows. He also was an avid gardener, both of vegetables and flowers and loved to collect antique cars. He became a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center in May of 2008 and passed away there on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 21 days. He is survived by his siblings: Signe (Peg) Olson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lowell (and Shirley) Haugen of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Richard Haugen of rural Clarkfield. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews: Peter Olson, Patricia Rethwill, Jean Stolpa, Janice Pearson, John Olson, William Chappell, Jill Zylker, Kurt Chappell, Chris Chappell, Robert Chappell, Ann Haugen, Laura Foschiatti and Keith Haugen; 24 great nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Beverly Chappell; nephew Steven Chappell; and brothers-in-law Willard Olson and William Chappell. Blessed be his memory.
