Roland J. Ford (August 11, 1922 ~ December 4, 2010) Roland J. Ford was born on August 11, 1922, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents John and Julia (Christensen) Ford. He attended country school at District 23 and high school in Clarkfield. On November 24, 1946, Roland married his life long partner (64 years) LaVerna Olson. They lived in Clarkfield for a few years until they took over the Ford home farm south of Clarkfield. On Roland's 25th birthday, his son, Curtis, was born. The family attended Spring Creek Lutheran Church until it closed, then joined Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield. In 2005 Roland and LaVerna moved to a home in Clarkfield, and in October 2010 Roland moved to the Clarkfield Care Center where he received wonderful care from everyone on staff. Roland was a gifted lead guitar player and over the years played with bands around Clarkfield and later in Alamo, Texas, where he and LaVerna spent many winters. He was a dedicated farmer, Clarkfield school bus driver for 13 years and when called upon, a much needed, self-trained mechanic. Roland passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 23 days. He is survived by his wife, LaVerna; his son Curtis and wife Cheri of Walker, Minnesota; and two grandchildren: Jason (Tricia) Ford of St. Michael, Minnesota, and Nicole Ford of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also survived by two great grandchildren: Benjamin and Alayna Ford; and two sisters: Myra Ford of Clarkfield and Myrtle (Skip) Blank of Mound, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Ford; two brothers: Haynes (Annie) and Lloyd (Agnus); two sisters: Inga and Evelyn; and a beloved grandson, Justin Thomas Ford.
