Roger Edward Stevens was born on a farm in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the youngest son of Carl A. and Mary (Gullickson) Stevens. He received Holy Baptism at his home by Rev. Lokensgard and confirmed his faith at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church at Hanley Falls, Minnesota, with Rev. Alf Jorgenson officiating. Roger attended Country School at District I (Vineland) and graduated from Hanley Falls High School in 1941. He then attended an aviation school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and later worked at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, California. He returned to the farm when his oldest brother enlisted in the service. He was united in marriage on June 17, 1945, to Mary Louise Johnson of Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Clarkfield. They lived on the farm at Hanley Falls for three years before moving to their present home. They have been blessed with two children, Ronald and Lisa Marie, both at home. Roger has been a member of the Hazel Run Township Board and served as Clerk for the past 15 years. He also has served on the Board of Trustees of Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Since his activities have been limited by arthritis, he thoroughly enjoyed visiting with his many friends and relatives Roger suffered a heart attack April 1st of this year and had a fatal attack on Monday evening, September 26, 1983, at the age of 60. He is survived by his wife Mary, Son Ronald, Daughter Lisa. Also surviving is foster sister, Wilma (Mrs. James) Bailey of Arcadia, California; sister-in-law, Mildred Stevens of Hanley Falls; and many nieces and nephews. He was prededed in death by his parents and two brothers, Virgil and Maurice Stevens. IN MEMORY OF ROGER E.
