Robert John
Hill
January 23, 1925 – December 8, 1990
Robert John Hill was born in Eagle River, Wisconsin, on January 23, 1925, the son of William and Sadie Hill. He was baptized June 25, 1925, at First Congregational Church in Eagle River, Wisconsin and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Ashland High School, Ashland, Wisconsin, in 1942 and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in 1943. He served in the United States Army from 1943 through 1946 in the European Theater, World War II and was honorably discharged as Technician, third grade. While in service, he received the American Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star. He then received a Bachelor degree in Business from the University of Minnesota in 1949. He married Audrey Melbostad September 9, 1950, at Clarkfield Norwegian Lutheran Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota. He began working for the Delaware Lackawanna and Western Railroad in 1949. He retired from Consolidated Rail Corporation as National Accounts Executive in January of 1987, after 38 years of service. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Warren, Michigan, for 23 years, and most recently of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening, and membership in various business and social clubs. Bob died at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota, on Saturday evening, December 8, 1990 at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife, Audrey; son, Robert and wife, Gerene, granddaughters Kristine and Rachel, of Bay City, Michigan; daughter, Carolyn Aldridge and her husband, Doug of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, M. William Hill of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister, Helen Wimberly of Kearney, Nebraska; three neices and seven nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Bob was a relatively new member of the Clarkfield community but was very happy, and loved his new home and friends. He loved much and was loved much and will be greatly missed.
