Robert Jacob Benson, son of Knute and Johanna (Saure) Benson, was born February 24, 1891, in Brown County at Hecla, South Dakota. He was baptized the same year by Rev. L.H. Bueide. At two years of age he moved with his family to a farm near Echo, Minnesota, and was confirmed at the Rock Valley Lutheran Church by Rev. Olaf Eriksen in 1905. That same year, he moved to a farm near Clarkfield, Minnesota. On August 31, 1926, he was united in marriage to Mamie Berg by Rev. O.M. Wee. To this union five children were born: Kerman of Excelsior, Minnesota, Corrine (Mrs. James Hamre) of Iowa City, Iowa, Robert of Bloomington, Minnesota, Ardell of Clarkfield, and Dr. Vernon Benson of Atlanta, Georgia. Until 1959, he farmed in Swede Prairie Township near Clarkfield. He suffered a heart attack on November 27, 1965, and passed away on Monday, November 29, 1965, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers: Bennie, Ole and Arthur, and one sister, Hannah. He is survived by his children, thirteen grandchildren, one sister, Olga, and one brother, John, both of Clarkfield, and a host of other relatives and friends. IN MEMORY OF ROBERT J.
