Richard D. Kelm was born February 9, 1936, at Boyd, Minnesota, to parents Arnold and Frances (Oien) Kelm. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. He attended Boyd Public School and graduated in 1955. Richard loved cars. He enjoyed garage sales and thrift shops. He lived in Dawson, Minnesota, for many years and moved to DeSmet, South Dakota, about five years ago. He passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 8 days. He is survived by his daughters: Desiree (Jim) Dietsche of Forest Lake, Minnesota, Susan (Rick) Nelson of East Bethel, Minnesota, Tammy Kelm of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Cindy (David) Hunter. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Alexander Mays, Chelsey Mays, Jade Kelm, Sam Nelson, Amber Nelson and Cameron Nelson; sister Sharon (Joe) Laux; and niece, nephew and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Frances; sister Lola and wife Carol.
