Obituary

Richard T. Hanson, 80, of Boyd, Minnesota, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, after a long battle with cancer. His funeral was held Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Boyd, Minnesota, with Pastor Ryan Fischer officiating. Organist was Mavis Hutt and soloist was DeWayne Hermanson. Honorary casketbearers were Melbourne Fjerkenstad, Arthur Hermanson, Hubert Hoff, Henry Holm, Palmer Grinager, Marlin Larson, and David Stratmoen. Burial was in the church cemetery. Richard Talbott Hanson was born July 7, 1921, in Hardin, Montana, to Otto and Florence (Talbott) Hanson. He was baptized at the Congregational church of that city. Richard started school at Fessenden, North Dakota, and continued his education when the family moved to Golva, North Dakota, in 1928. He was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Beach, North Dakota. In 1940, he graduated from high school. Richard studied sheet metal work at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota, after which he found work in airplane maintenance at Holmen Field in St. Paul, Minnesota. Richard enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and received training in aircraft mechanics at Hondo Field in Texas. He spent time at various Air Force bases in Great Britain and the European Continent, serving there until the end of World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he joined his father in the retail lumber business in Golva and Beach, North Dakota. Richard and Enid Rohning were married May 13, 1951, in Boyd. They resided in Golva until 1955 and then moved to their farm near Boyd. This farm became a Minnesota Century Farm in 2001. Richard served on the last school board of District 68, Ten Mile Lake Township board, and the school board of the Boyd Public School. He also served on the boards of Trinity Lutheran Church, Boyd Farmers Elevator and the Lac qui Parle County Planning Commission. Richard and Enid celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in May of 2001. Richard is survived by his wife, Enid; children: Kristi (and Francis) Hauger of Clear Lake, South Dakota; Sonya (and Mark) Rustad of Edina, Minnesota; Einar (and Michelle) of Red Wing, Minnesota; Erik of Boyd; and Ann (and Michael) Forsberg of Benson, Minnesota; sister Elaine (and Raymond) Hansen of Tacoma, Washington; brother John (and Kathleen) of Beach, North Dakota; and eight grandchildren: Steven and Brian Hauger, Karen and Jenny Rustad, Marit and Britta Hanson and Alexander and Adam Forsberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Louise; and one granddaughter, Deidra Forsberg. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
