Obituary

What we have once loved, we can never lose. Reuben Gerhard Vik, son of Mons and Katherine (Hanson) Vik, was born September 19, 1903, at Clarkfield, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized by Pastor O. Farseth and confirmed in 1917 by Pastor O.T. Storaasli. He was a lifelong member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. On February 4, 1926, he was united in marriage to Hallie Sharkey. To this union, six children were born: Mrs. Harold (Darlene) Harris, Cresco, Iowa, R. Darrell, Cokato, Minnesota, Mrs. Ronald (Hallie) Anderson, Pullman, Washington, Mrs. Linnae (Wilma) Berg, Santa Fe Springs, California, Mrs. Jacob (Sonja) Kernen, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Roseann Katherine who passed away in infancy. Fourteen granchildren affectionately called him Grandpa Bimbo: Linda, Karen, Claude, and Sonja Harris, Perry and Janet Vik, Paul, Beth and Mark Anderson, Shari, Scott and Sandra Berg, and Timmy and Terry Kernen. His actions and unique sense of humor will long be remembered and they reflected his belief that everybody is a somebody and to many, he was a friend, partner and helper. He was a trustee, member of the church building committee, and was active in other affairs of his church. He enjoyed singing and good music and cherished his association with the church choir and the Hauge Male Chorus. Public service was important to him. Among his varied interests were past membership on the Friendship Town Board and he was currently serving his ninth year as a Yellow Medicine County Commissioner. He is survived by his wife; four daughters; one son; one sister, Mrs. Abner (Olivia) Hendrikson, Decorah, Iowa; and two brothers, Theodore, St. Anthony, Idaho, and Henrik, San Antonio, Texas. Preceeding him in death were his parents; one daughter; three brothers: Arthur, Melvin and K. Olaf; two sisters, Mabel and Ruth; granddaughter Katherine Vik; and son-in law Harold Harris. All that we have loved becomes a part of us. We loved him, respected him, and were proud of him. Blessed be his memory. IN MEMORY OF REUBEN G.
