Raymond Gehart Severson was born January 17, 1907, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Andrew and Emma (Nelson) Severson. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Lucas Lutheran Church, Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County. He graduated from the Clarkfield High School, Clarkfield, Minnesota, in 1925. On March 18, 1937, Raymond was married to Agnes Broughton at the parsonage in Cottonwood by Rev. H.J. Madland. They farmed in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, until 1970. In 1972 they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, and resided there the last twenty years. After a short period of hospitalization and stay at the Granite Falls Manor, Raymond passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 1992, at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 85. Raymond was an active member of the St. Lucas Lutheran Church serving in various capacities, and he was recognized as the St. Lucas Church Historian. He served on the FHA Board of Yellow Medicine County and the Yellow Medicine County Extension Board for a period of time. Raymond is survived by his wife, Agnes; three children: Arlen Severson and wife, Juli, of Duluth, Minnesota, David Severson and wife, Zan, of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Ihleen Williams and husband, Gary, of Aitkin, Minnesota. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Kate Finifrock, Sara, Jon, Erik, Ethan, SuZan and Eran; and two great grandchildren: Nicole and Monte Finifrock. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents.
