Raymond Engval Olson was born on February 29, 1912, in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to his parents, Rasmus and Inga (Stensaker) Olson. He was baptized on March 31, 1912 and confirmed on July 3, 1927, both at Clarkfield Lutheran Church of Clarkfield, Minnesota. Ray attended school in Clarkfield. It was during his employment with a bridge construction crew in 1936 that Ray lost his left arm above the elbow along with three fingers from his right hand. Ray was married to Ruth Dagel in Watertown, South Dakota, on November 5, 1937. Ray was a self-employed salesman of home and farm products as well as taking care of the maintainance of the Clarkfield Lutheran Cemetery for over 40 years. He also enjoyed working on small gas engines. Ray passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 1991, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 79. Surviving Ray are his wife, Ruth of Clarkfield; one daughter, Dawn Swenson and her husband Peter of Blaine, Minnesota; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and three sisters, Judith Johnson of Minneota, Minnesota, Cora Davidson of Zimmerman, Minnesota, and Rose Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Preceding Ray in death were his parents and one sister, Innola Winson.
