Obituary

Raymond J. Kompelien November 16, 1921 ~ November 3, 2013 Raymond J. Kompelien was born at Marshall, Minnesota, on November 16, 1921, to parents Sam and Nettie (Stensrud) Kompelien. He was baptized November 27, 1921, and later confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. He graduated from Cottonwood High School. Ray worked for Marvin Stensrud until he entered the United States Army on December 11, 1944. He served his country until his honorable discharge on November 13, 1946. He then returned home to farm. Raymond and Mayme (Hanson) Kompelien were united in marriage on November 8, 1947, at the Christ Lutheran Church Parsonage in Cottonwood. They were the parents of four children: Michael, Bruce, Luanne and Lori. In addition to farming, he worked for AMPI, retiring in 1986 and then went to work for son Bruce at Countryside Auto Body in Maynard. He retired the second time (from auto body) in 2007, but he remained busy mowing lawns for his neighbors and family, something he loved to do. Mayme passed away in 1994. Raymond remained in their home until 2010 when he moved to Henry Hill Apartments. He lived there until he was 91. He spent some time at the Clarkfield Care Center and was at the Granite Manor at the time of his death. Ray loved to shake dice, play cards, watch Nascar and be with his family. He passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at the age of 91 years and 11 months. He is survived by his four children: Michael (Karen) of Willmar, Minnesota, Bruce (Elaine) of Maynard, Minnesota, Luanne (Greg) Knutson of Fargo, North Dakota, Lori (Tom) O'Connor of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and special friend, Carol Beck. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Lucas (Tara) Kompelien, Heather (Reese) Seefeldt, Krystal (Jim) Seeley, Laura Delavie, Chad (Lisa) Kompelien, Katelyn O'Connor, John O'Connor, and Jessica Dockter; step grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Virginia Isaackson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mayme and sister, Georgia Idso. Blessed be his memory.
