Rachel Stokke Swalstad was born in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, February 14, 1890, of the parents, Sivert and Rachel (Nelson) Stokke. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Rev. K. Thorstenson and confirmed by Rev. Martin Romstad and has continued her membership in the St. Lucas Church until the time of her death. In 1916 she was united in marriage to Henry Swalstad. To this union three children were born: Selphin, Bernice and Clayton. Selphin passed away in 1924 and Clayton in 1965. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and five brothers. She lived in Normania Township most of her life with the exception of a number of years in South Dakota, Granite Falls and Renville. The past two years she resided at the Clarkfield Care Center. She was taken to the Clarkfield Hospital where she passed away on October 25, 1972, at the age of 82 years. She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter, Bernice (Mrs. Bennett Lewison) of Granite Falls, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
