(Ness) Hawkinson

Rachel Hawkinson was born September 12, 1893, to James and Susie (Hanson) Ness in Lisbon, Illinois. When she was eight years old, Rachel, together with her brother, Melvin, and parents moved to Minnesota and settled in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County. When she was 16 years old, the Ness family moved to Minneota, Minnesota, and it was there she met her husband. She was united in marriage to Alfred M. Hawkinson on August 12, 1912. To this union five children were born. They lived their first year of marriage in Minneota and later moved to the farm in Swede Prairie where they lived until her husband passed away in 1966. She then moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, where she and her daughter, Sylve, made their home. She passed away Sunday morning, November 21, 1971, at the Montevideo Hospital after a week's illness, at the age of 78 years. She leaves to mourn her departure five children: Howard of Minneapolis, Arlo of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Russell of Clarkfield, Fern (Mrs. David Landmark) of Montevideo, Minnesota, and Sylve; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one brother, Melvin Ness of Norco, California. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and her christian love was extended to all who knew her. IN MEMORY OF MRS. RACHEL E.
