Phyllis Jean Anderson Oakland was born August 19, 1931, to parents, Esther and Gilford Anderson at Dawson, Minnesota. She had no sisters or brothers. She was baptized by Rev. P. O. Wee and confirmed by Rev. Martin Lien. She graduated from Boyd High School in 1949. She chose banking as her career, and worked as a teller and bookkeeper in three local banks: Boyd State Bank, Northwestern State Bank in Montevideo and Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Maurice Oakland on June 14, 1953. They had two daughters. They farmed south of Clarkfield, moving to Clarkfield in 1970. Phyllis later became a resident of Valhalla Apartments in 2001. Phyllis died Friday, May 21, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 72. Surviving her are her daughters: Diane (Jerry) Holien of Maynard, Minnesota, and Darlys (Keith) Listul of Hazel Run, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Lisa) Holien of Farmington, Minnesota, Eric (Julie) Holien of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Melissa (Lael Booth) Holien of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Craig, Chad and Darcie Listul; two great granddaughters: Hailey Holien and Lyanna Booth; and very special friend, Veryl Jessen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maurice; and infant grandson Kevin Listul.
