Obituary

Philip James Kvistad was born December 2, 1925, at Echo, Minnesota, to Sivert and Oline (Nydahl) Kvistad, and passed away June 15, 1973, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 47 years. After attending school in rural Echo, on December 13, 1944, he was inducted into the United States Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Salerno Bay, in the Pacific Theater of War. February 27, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Falkum of Clarkfield, Minnesota. Seven children blessed this union: Katherine Dethlefs of Blaine, Minnesota, Dennis of Clarkfield, Patricia Kirk of St. Paul, Minnesota, Paulette, Barbara, Kevin and Keith at home. He was engaged in farming near Wood Lake, Minnesota. Besides his wife and children, survivors includes sons-in-law: James Dethlefs and John Kirk; daughter in law, Gwendolyn (McCoy) Kvistad; three grandchildren: Karla and Eric Dethlefs and Jay Kirk; five sisters: Mrs. Betha Espeseth, San Leandro, California, Mrs. Sophie Dickey, Cottonwood, Minnesota, Mrs. Anna McAliley, Faribault, Minnesota, Mrs. Mary Mattson, Oakland California, and Mrs. Lillian Falkum, Clarkfield; six brothers: Ole Kvistad, Okeechobee, Florida, Elert and Hans of Echo, John of Granite Falls, Minnesota, David of Castre Valley, California, and Ingwald of Minneapolis; one aunt, Mrs. Lisa Homme of Minneapolis; besides many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives. His parents and two brothers, Jens and Joseph preceded him in death.
