Derlyn Reinhold Edmund Lehmann was born on November 8, 1942, when his parents resided on their farm located eleven miles west and two north of Clarkfield in Maxwell Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. He was baptized by Rev. Louis Rosin and confirmed on May 5, 1957, by Rev. W.A. Haag. His father, Reuben Lehmann, passed away in 1952 and since then his mother, Bernice Fritz Lehmann brought up her two sons on the farm until she moved to Clarkfield and operated "B's" Kitchen Cafe. Derlyn worked on various farms until 1962 when he started work with Mork's REA construction crew. He was inducted in the Army on April 9, 1964, training in Louisiana and Texas before being sent from Fort Riley, Kansas to Viet Nam on December 23rd.
