PFC Lyle Gordon Leppke was born may 12, 1946, at Canby, Minnesota. In 1964 he was graduated from the Dr. Martin Luther High School at New Ulm, Minnesota. From 1964 to 1966, he attended Northwestern Lutheran College at Watertown, Wisconsin, and from 1966 to 1968, he attended St. Cloud State College. On February 20, 1969, he was inducted into the service and took his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. At graduation time he received the Army Scholarship award and was an expert marksman. He received his A.I.T. at Fort Polk, Louisiana. PFC Lyle Leppke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Leppke was killed the night of August 5, 1969, in South Viet Nam. He had left for Viet Nam on July 21, 1969, and was killed as the result of hostile action in Asha Valley in South Viet Nam. He is survived by his parents, Arnold an Elna (Weckwerth) Leppke of rural Minneota; one brother, Donald and his wife and daughter, Janet Christine; and his fiance, Miss Ila Gruys of Elk River. SFC Royal F. Luty of Oakland, California accompanied the body to Clarkfield by way of plane to Minneapolis International Airport and by charter plane to Montevideo where the Lynner Funeral Home service met the plane at twelve noon on Tuesday, August 12.
