Petra Theodora Trandahl was born on October 16, 1903 at Hjorundfjord, Norway. Petra was baptized on November 15, 1903 in Hjorundfjord Church, Norway. Petra was five years old when she came to America. She was confirmed at Israel Church by P.O. Wee on May 18, 1919. On November 9, 1922, Petra married Thorvold Alfred Kompelien in Dawson, Minnesota, at the parsonage, by P.O. Wee. To this union three children were born: Ardith, Pernilla and David. In 1939 Petra and Thorvald bought a farm near Porter, Minnesota. They moved to Clarkfield in 1960. Petra continued to live in Clarkfield following Thorvald's death and worked at the Clarkfield Care Center for 23 years, then retired. She lived in her house until 1989 and then moved to Valhalla Apartments at Clarkfield. Petra has crocheted many cross bookmarks and cross and crown doilies. She has given many of these as gifts to her children, grandchildren and friends. The last two years Petra resided at the Clarkfield Care Center until she passed away. Petra Theodora Kompelien died January 3, 1995, at the age of 91 years, at the Montevideo Hospital. Petra is survived by two daughters; Ardith and Martin Reishus of Cottonwood, Pernilla and Marvin Anderson of Hazel Run, and one son, David and Carolyn Kompelien of Eagan, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one sister; Minnie Soppeland of Willmar, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thorvald, three brothers; John, Theodore and Alfred, one sister; Emma Johnson. Blessed be her memory.
