Funeral services for Peter M. Haakenson were held at Trinity Lutheran Church at Boyd, Minnesota, on Wednesday, May 29, 1974, at the age of 88 years. Vernon Stevens was soloist with Helen Krogstad at the organ. Honorary Casket Bearers were George Gilbertson, Melvin Gudahl, William Hartfiel, Albert Horgen, Helmer Hveem, and Daniel Korstad. Active Casket Bearers were James Bach, Joseph Fjerkenstad, Edwin Gilbertson, Harry Gilbertson, Harold Larson and Harold Nagel. Peter M. Haakenson was born March 12, 1886, in Ten Mile Lake Township of Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, to Martin and Karine (Pederson) Haakenson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd where he was a faithful member all his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bernt and Hjalmar, four sisters, Marie, Clara, Oleanna and Jorgina. He is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Laurence Johnke of Mattoon, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ruth Olson of Boyd; two nephews: Orville Borgendale of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Mark Olson of Houston, Texas; three nieces: Mrs. Harold Iverson of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Mrs. Archie Allchin of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Mrs. Bertrand Goderstad of Hastings, Minnesota. Peter Haakenson was a devoted public servant. He held many positions of trust such as treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church for 31 years, served on the Farmer's Elevator Board for 43 years and was Township Clerk for over 50 years.
