IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peder
Bakken
May 9, 1909 – May 24, 1991
Peder Bakken was born at Thief River Falls, Minnesota, on May 9, 1909, the son of the late Mathias and Sneva (Rensla) Bakken. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school through the eighth grade. Peder came to the Clarkfield area as a young man looking for work. He met Grace Oraas and they were married on April 8, 1933. They farmed in Normania township until 1971 when they retired and moved to Clarkfield. In 1983 they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Peder was a member of Spring Creek Lutheran Church where he served faithfully on various boards. He enjoyed fishing, winter and summer, with his friends. Grace and Peder had no children of their own but were interested in neighborhood children. It was fun for them to attend wrestling matches and basketball games where these children were involved. Wildlife was an important part of Petes daily enjoyment. When his wife Grace died on May 24, 1991, Peder and his brother-in-law, Oral moved to the Clarkfield Care Center, where he died on February 26, 1992. Peder is survived by two sisters, Christine Newton and Myrtle Lofgren; three brothers, Melvin, Ingolf and Gilmore Bakken; brothers-in-laws, Oral Oraas, Ernest and wife Avenell. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace; sister, Selma Johnson; brothers, Oliver and Edwin; half sister, Amanda McNichle. Blessed be the memories of this gentle man.
