Pearl E. Nelson was born August 4, 1915, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Nels and Petra Halvorson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. She attended Clarkfield Public Schools. Pearl married Merold S. Nelson on October 31, 1935. This marriage was blessed with four children: Merilyn, Sydney, Sarah, and Dorothy. Pearl and Merold "Buddy" lived in Clarkfield until 1955, when they moved to Hopkins, Minnesota. Pearl passed away at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, on Tuesday, August 17, 1999, at the age of 84 years and 14 days. She is survived by her four children: Merilyn Pure of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sydney Nelson of Mora, Minnesota, Sarah Rolighed (and Wesley) of Hopkins, Minnesota, and Dorothy Pelino, also of Hopkins. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Stacy Hernandez, Loren Nelson, Allen Nelson, Tim Rolighed, Mike Rolighed, Rico Pelino, Tony Pelino, Michael Pelino, Tammy Pelino, Chip Bazilian, Lisa Bazilian, and Robin Salerno; 13 great grandchildren; and brothers: Erling Halvorson and Alvin Droen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merold, in 1989; sister Thelma Saby; and brothers Gerhard and Hilmer Halvorson and Maurice Droen. Pearl's family was her whole life and she proved that time and time again. She will be sadly missed.
