Pearl W. Ernst was born April 16, 1892, at Adair, Iowa, of parents Andy and Millie (Reed) Long. She was the oldest of a family of six: Orville, Melville, and Devota deceased; Boyd of Clarkfield and Murvel (Mrs. Everett) Loomis of Clarkfield. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Adair. On February 2, 1910, she was united in marriage to Henry Ernst in the country church of their Iowa community. In December of 1912, the young couple followed her family, the Andy Longs, to Yellow Medicine County. They farmed for seven years then returned to this county again. They farmed until 1950 when they moved to Clarkfield. She spent the past ten years with Elois Berkvam with the last seven months in the Granite Falls Manor. The couple are blessed with three children: Eloise, Mrs. Orville Berkvam of Granite Falls, Glen of Minneapolis and Doris, Mrs. Eugene Meyer of Hazel Run. Left to mourn her departure are three children, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband Henry Ernst in 1967; parents, Andy and Millie Long; two brothers: Orville and Melville Long; one sister Devota Walls; son-in-law Orville Berkvam; two grandchildren: Irvin Berkvam and Galen Meyer.
