Obituary

Pearl Caroline Grevstad was born on April 26, 1911, in Sioux Agency Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Peter and Caroline (Iverson) Gunderson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Rock Dell Lutheran Church of Belview, Minnesota. She attended District No. 89 rural school near Echo, Minnesota. On July 27, 1941, Pearl was married to Sigvart H. Grevstad at the Rock Dell Lutheran Church parsonage in Belview. They farmed in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County for 29 years before retiring and moving to Sacred Heart, Minnesota, after Sigvart passed away in January of 1970. Pearl lived in Sacred Heart until July of 1996. Then she lived with her daughters Sonja and Darlene until she moved to the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby, Minnesota, in May of 1997. Pearl was a member of the Israel Lutheran Church where she participated in the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and was famous for her buns, bread, pies and best sauce maker. She enjoyed caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a special love for fresh flowers and house plants. Pearl always enjoyed having the coffee pot on with cookies for her family and friends. In her later years she enjoyed playing bingo and having coffee and cookies at the cafeteria (cafe) at Senior Haven Nursing Home. She also enjoyed visiting with her former Clarkfield farm neighbors (Lloyd and Lucille Gorder) at Canby. Pearl passed away at the Senior Haven Nursing Home on Wednesday, September 12, 2001, at the age of 90 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Pearl is survived by her daughters: Sonja (George) Siemieniewski of Sacred Heart, and Darlene (Charles) Oellien of Canby; grandchildren: Alta (Ken) Granquist, Deb Rice, Delroy (Theresa) Mahlum, Alroy (Laura) Mahlum, Scott (Chris) Oellien, and Wayne Siemieniewski; step-grandchildren: Kelly (Mary) Ham, Rochelle (Kent) Hubert, Donna Ham and Sharon (Steve) Brockman; 16 great grandchildren; and her sister, Lila Hildahl of Echo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sigvart; her daughter Esther; four brothers: Alvin, James, Edwin,and Peder; and two sisters: Jenny and Myrtle. Blessed be her memory.
