Lena (Pearson) Bestland was born on October 3, 1905 in Skona Sweden to parents Otto and Maria (Anderson) Pearson. Lena came to the United States with her family on August 16, 1918 and settled in the Hanley Falls area. Lena married Fred Bestland on December 8, 1926 in Hanley Falls, Minnesota. To this union a son, Jerry, was born. Fred and Lena spent their working years on a farm. When they retired from farming they moved to Hanley Falls, in 1947. Fred passed away in 1963 and Lena continued to reside in Hanley Falls until 1991. At that time Lena moved to the Granite Falls Manor. Lena was a lifelong member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Ladies Aid. She was also one of the last immigrants in the church. Lena passed away, Wednesday, June 22, 1994 at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 88. Survived by her son Jerry and his wife Marsha, of Brooklyn Park, two grandsons Paul and Michael, also two nephews, Roger and Merlin Olson and niece, Edith Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred.
