Palmer Kenneth Grinager (August 28, 1928 ~ July 26, 2010) Palmer Kenneth Grinager was born August 28, 1928, in Boyd, Minnesota, to Melvin and Petra (Martinson) Grinager. He passed away on July 26, 2010, at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 81. Palmer was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Church (currently Grace Lutheran Church) in Dawson, Minnesota. He lived most of his life in the Dawson and Boyd areas. He attended country school at District #4 by Milan, Minnesota, through the eighth grade. Palmer worked as a parts man at Lee Motors in Dawson for three years. He also worked at Swift Meat Packing Plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for a short time. Following that, Palmer returned to the Boyd area and farmed until he retired in 2003. He was also an auctioneer for 40 years, working with Southwest Auction in Canby, Minnesota, as well as working with real estate. In March of 1954, Palmer married Dona VanHeuveln in Montevideo, Minnesota. To this union three children were born: Paul, Peter, and Karen. Dona passed away on December 1, 1968. On November 26, 1975 Palmer was united in marriage to Betty (Saumer Hermanson) by Pastor Duane Larson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. Palmer was a County Commissioner for Lac qui Parle County for eight years. He was very active in the church, holding many offices. He was president of the Boyd PTA for several years. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Palmer was also an eager learner, had a love of reading, and became the family historian. He appeared in the movie Sweetland as an auctioneer, filmed in the Montevideo area in 2004. Palmer's wife, Betty, children, and grandchildren were the center of his life. Palmer is survived by his loving wife, Betty; son Paul; daughter Karen (David Londgren); step- children Deb (Dan) Schluter, Vicki (Steve) Norman, Doug (Donna) Hermanson, Craig Hermanson, Richard Hermanson; 37 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sisters: Alice, Helen, Diane, Ruby; brother Jerry; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: first wife Dona; son Peter; grandson Ole Norman; his parents; brothers: Helmer, Bennie, LuVern; and sister Millie. In Loving Memory of Palmer K.
