Obituary

Ove Olson was born on November 8, 1863, in Lisbon, Illinois, the son of Sigbjorn and Kari (Ovesdotter) Olson. He was also baptized at this place by the old pioneer pastor, Rev. P.O. Rasmussen. Death came to Mr. Olson on Friday evening, December 16, 1949, at the age of 86 years, one month and eight days. In early childhood he moved with his parents to Webster County, Iowa, where he spent his childhood and youth. He was confirmed by Rev. Takle. On October 21, 1883, Mr. Olson was united in marriage to Miss Margrette Lund of Thor, Iowa. The young couple made their home in the Thor locality until the spring of 1901, when together with the Sam Lund and John A. Olson families they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, and settled on a farm in Tyro Township. Here they made their home until five years ago when they left the farm and moved to the home in Clarkfield, where Mr. Olson breathed his last. Mr. Olson was always at the forefront in any movement for the betterment of his community, both in civic and church affairs. He is survived by his wife and six children: Mrs. Cecelia Hanson, Agnes and Selmer of the Clarkfield community; Josie (Mrs. Lars Amdahl) of Northfield, Minnesota, Carolyn (Mrs. Carl Anderson) of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, Gerhard of Boyd, Minnesota; and two foster daughters: Anna Marie (Mrs. Cecil Birkhart) of Clifton, Arizona, and Clara Payne of Seattle, Washington. His oldest son, Carl, and daughter, Alice, preceded him in death. Other survivors are ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one brother, John Olson of Clarkfield; one sister, Mrs. Olaf Olson of Minneapolis; besides a host of other relatives and friends who together with his family will mourn the departure of a kind, loving husband and father, and true friend. Tribute to Father Father was tired and weary, Weary with toil and pain, Put away his chair and glasses He will not need them again. He has gone into the Kingdom Never to sigh or to weep; And after patiently suffering, Father has fallen asleep. Near other dear ones we will lay him Out on the hill close by And not for this world would we wake him, Or question why. But he does not sleep 'neath the grasses Tho over his grave, they may creep For he has gone into the Kingdom And father has fallen asleep.
