Mr. Otto Soppeland, age 94 years and 6 months, passed away January 16, 1975, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was born in Pontiac, Illinois, on July 21, 1880, to parents John O. and Levina Soppeland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He moved with his parents and other family members to a farm by Badger, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. Otto was united in marriage to Olena Pederson of Thor, Iowa, in 1904. To this union nine children were born of which two passed away in infancy. His wife Olena passed away April 29, 1925. He married Mrs. Bertha Rasmussen of Dawson in October 1947, where they resided about 20 years. She passed away June 15, 1970. Otto had been a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center for about four years. Survivors include seven children: Juel of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Henrick of Willmar, Minnesota, Elmira Liermann, LeVina Hawley and Clair, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ora (Mrs. Alfred Trandahl) and Carold of Clarkfield; 26 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Hill of Badger, Iowa; two step daughters; and a large number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 13 brothers and sisters; two grandsons; one step-daughter and one step-son.
