Oscar Willander was born July 18, 1886, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Nels and Kjersti (Eskels) Willander. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Fridhem Church until it united with the Augustana Lutheran Church, where he continued his membership. On June 14, 1921, he was united in marriage to Emelia Anderson. To this union ten children were born. Mr. Willander farmed in Tyro Township all his wedded life and was known for his hobby of gardening. Mr. Willander passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, on Sunday, September 1, 1963, at the age of 77 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Howard; son-in-law, George Rosen; five brothers: Jann, who died in Sweden, August, Mathias, Leonard and Edwin; four sisters: Lena, who died at sea enroute to America; Alice (Mrs. Charles Anderson), Lena (Mrs. John Lindall) and Anna Willander. He is survived by his wife and children: Delmar, Edgar, and Eldon, all of Clarkfield, Ethel (Mrs. Eugene Beck) of Montevideo, Alicia (Mrs. Wayne Peterson) of Canby, Wendell, Norma (Mrs. George Rosen), William and Irvin, all of Clarkfield; seven grandchildren; two sisters: Jennie (Mrs. Albert Anderson) and Amanda (Mrs. Swen Friberg) of Clarkfield; and one brother, Albert William Willander of Minneapolis; besides a number of relatives and friends.
