Oscar West was born in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on May 25, 1907, to Peter and Selma (Olson) West. He was baptized on June 30, 1907, by Rev. Salhus at Spring Creek Lutheran Church, and confirmed on March 19, 1922, by Rev. Storaasli at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He attended schools in Normania and Swede Prairie Townships. On March 16, 1935, Oscar was united in marriage to Anna Thorson of Swede Prairie Township by Rev. Akre. To this union were born two sons and one daughter: Ralph, Stanley and Shirley. Oscar passed away at the Clarkfield Hospital on July 23, 1973, after a lingering illness, having reached the age of 66 years. He is survived by his wife, Anna; sons, Ralph of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Stanley of Naperville, Illinois; a daugter, Shirley (Mrs. Roger Shawd) of New Hope, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Randy, Ronald and David Shawd, and Lisa, Michael and Stephanie West; two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law. Other survivors are his brothers, Alfred and Emil West of Clarkfield, and one sister, Martha Bakken of Bloomington, Minnesota.
