Oscar Wendell Willander was born February 14, 1928 in rural Clarkfield, Minnesota to parents Oscar and Emelia (Anderson) Willander. He was baptized on April 8, 1928 at the First English Lutheran Church and confirmed on May 2, 1943 at the same church. Wendell attended School District 29 of rural Clarkfield. He entered the United States Army in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 18, 1951 and served until April 1, 1953. He was discharged at Fort Custer, Michigan. Wendell married June Ardell Homan on November 14, 1964 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield, Minnesota. Wendell farmed until the early 1960s and then worked as a carpenter. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Wendell was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was the Church President and member of the Parish Council. He was a member of the Boyd American Legion and a volunteer fireman for 20 years. Wendell passed away on Friday morning, October 28, 1994 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 66 years, 8 months, and 13 days. He is survived by his wife, June, and Children: Jacque, Wendy and husband, Mike, Aaron and wife Michelle, and Angie. He is also survived by grandchildren Tony and Stacy and Alicia (and Wayne) Peterson, Edgar Willander, Eldon (and Ramona) Willander, William (and Pat) Willander, and Irvin (and Brenda) Willander and many nieces and nephews. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Emelia, two brothers, Delmer and Howard, and two sisters, Ethel and Norma.
