Oscar Peterson was born on December 21, 1883, to Nicolai and Gustava (Lende) Peterson of Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. After graduating from high school and working for a time on his father's farm, he spent a few years in the Dakotas, teaching rural school, one year near Lemmon, South Dakota and one year in Killdeer, North Dakota, and doing carpentry work. He then returned to Minnesota. He married Agnes Hellzen in 1929 and farmed the homeplace until 1947 when he retired. Oscar served four terms in the state legislature representing Yellow Medicine County. He also worked several years in the ASCS office in Clarkfield, Minnesota. Oscar passed away at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarkfield on April 29, 1980, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by four sisters: Nora (Mrs. Adolph Mossige) of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Nettie (Mrs. Maxwell Wait) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Sylvia (Mrs L.A. Miller) of Clarkfield and Bergliot (Mrs. E.R. Larson) of Eveleth, Minnesota; and one brother George of Laguna Hills, California. He was prededed in death by his wife in 1973; his parents; four sisters: Christine (Mrs. Arnt Ree), Grethe (Mrs. Wareham Paul), Ella (Mrs. Charles Berdeen), and Ruth (Mrs. Herbert Jacobson); and one brother, Leonard.
