Obituary

Oscar R. Loland was born October 26, 1894, to Tobias and Caroline (Gunderson) Loland in Cottonwood, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Silo Lutheran Church of Cottonwood. Oscar served in the U.S. Navy during World War I and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Last Man's Club. In his earlier years he worked on the railroad, and in the oil fields in Wyoming. He then returned to Cottonwood and was custodian of the school for 23 years before retiring in 1963. On September 1, 1976, Oscar suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. He entered the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota, on July 3, 1979, and passed away July 16, 1979. He is survived by three sisters: Ethel (Mrs. Arthur Hogenson) of Janesville, Minnesota, Myrtle Loland of Cottonwood, and Cecil (Mrs. Marvin Markgraf) of Wood Lake, Minnesota; eight nephews and seven nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother; step-mother; and three brothers. IN MEMORY OF OSCAR R.
