Oscar John Hagen was born August 8, 1884, in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Peter O. Hagen and Karena (Nelson) Hagen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran Church of Stony Run Township. Following his elementary education he attended Willmar Business College. Thereafter, he with his brother Norman, farmed with their father on the home farm. In 1913 he opened a grocery store in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Bertha C. Granum in 1922. He and his family moved to his farm near Hazel Run in 1934 when in the fall, he opened a graocery store in Hazel Run. He retired from the grocery business in 1947 and spent the remaining years on his farm. The past four years he was a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center. He passed away January 10, 1978, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital at the age of 93 years. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; one son, John Paul of Plymouth, Minnesota; one daughter, Marion (Mrs. C.O. Johnson) of Monticello, Minnesota; six grandsons: Peter, William and Christopher Hagen, Steven, Bradley and Donald Johnson; one granddaughter, Martha Hagen; and one great granddaughter, Sonja Johnson.
