Oscar Barkeim, 92, of Clarkfield, Minnesota, died at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on April 3, 1988. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 7, 1988, at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Gordon Trelstad officiating. Music was provided by organist Mrs. Karen Donner and soloists Mr. Loren Norgaard and Mrs. Arlene Wollmuth. Casket Bearers were Velmin Larson, Ray Miller, Arden Morland, Don Quesnell, Curt Torgerson and Ed Wollmuth. Final Resting Place is in the Clarkfield Lutheran Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Military rites at the services were by the American Legion J. Ben Johnson Post No. 169, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Oscar Barkeim was born February 23, 1896 in Frederick, South Dakota, to parents Oskar L. and Ingeborg (Klevberg) Barkeim. He was baptized in Fredrick and later confirmed in Lakefield, Minnesota. He attended school in Lakefield and business courses at Jewell Lutheran College in Jewell, Iowa. He joined the Navy and served in WWI. On November 12, 1939, he married Ruth Tallman in Lakefield. He was a farmer, carpenter, and the caretaker of Clarkfield Lutheran Church for five years. Oscar was a charter member of the American Legion and very active in the church and community. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters and two infant twin sisters. Survivors include his wife Ruth, and children, Duane and wife Carol of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota, Eldon and wife Naomi of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Kathleen and husband Curtis Dahl of Orange Park, Florida, David and wife Katie of Alexandria, Minnesota, and their families, including nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren and one sister, Ella Gage of Minneapolis.
