Obituary

Oscar T. Anderson was born in Manitowac, Wisconsin, on January 29, 1869, the son of Tobias and Anlaug (Norris) Anderson. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in the Valders Church. At the age of two years he came with his family to Normania Township in Yellow Medicine County where the family homesteaded. He was confirmed by Rev. Thostenson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. In 1894 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hoiland of Normania, and in that same year they bought a farm adjoining the homestead of his parents. He continued farming until 1912, when he moved to Clarkfield and with Mr. C.M. Lundberg operated a general store. Mr. Anderson owned and operated the Red and White Store until 1939, when he retired at the age of 70 years, because of ill health. During the past year Mr. Anderson steadily declined in health. About two months ago he suffered a paralytic stroke and was bedridden until he passed away quietly at his home on June 14, 1951, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 16 days. Mr. Anderson was the last surviving member of his family, his only brother, T.T. Anderson, having preceded him in death a few years ago. Surviving him are his wife and seven children: Thorfin, Alton, Elenora (Mrs. Oscar Iverson) and Esther (Mrs. Arden Lynne) of Clarkfield, Gilford of Glenwood, Minnesota, and Ralph and Agnes of Minneapolis. Also surviving him are 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Four children preceded him in death: an infant daughter, Agnes, Torval and Emery. Mr. Anderson took an active part in church, civic and political affairs. He was a faithful member of Evangelical Lutheran Church. He had experienced both good and bad years, but through it all he maintained a sincere interest in men and a firm faith in His Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a home loving man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Blessed be his memory. Funeral Services from the home 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 1951, 2:30 p.m. Clarkfield Ev.
